YOU HAVE NO SOUL: DJ BUSINESS CARDS

You know who has no soul? DJ's who make and pass out business cards. It seems a pathetic attempt to legitimatize an otherwise rather iffy career choice. Let's just look at the facts. DJing sits on a very fine line between the service industry and creative expression. Bands don't have business cards, but the guy who delivers the keg does. So, if a DJ wants to "personally" market him/herself as a business (via cards, resumes, and sometimes even advertisements), then he/she waives all rights to call themselves an artist. And this is not to say that bands or any other type of artists aren't promoted, pushed, and squeezed into success, but it's not being done personally. It's kind of like the saying, "if you have to ask how much something is, you probably can't afford it". DJs are either so talented that their skill promotes itself, or they are destined to float atop the sea of monotony, wearing sideways hats, neon shoes, and claiming to, "bring the party". If the stigma isn't enough to deter, let's ask ourselves a question; has any DJ ever made it big because they had a business card? I wouldn't pride myself on knowing that answer, but I just don't believe so.

In conclusion, DJs who hand out business cards have no soul because they are not entirely honest with themselves about the true nature or value of what they are both providing, and hoping to attain.
